Francesc Garcia Escarré was born in Reus (Tarragona, Catalonia) in 1871. He studied art in Barcelona, Paris and Madrid. He traveled and participated in different exhibitions around the world. He also decorated particular homes and public buildings. The worth of his work was recognized in the artistic surroundings of the time and he participated actively in art associations such as “Círculo Artístico” or “la Sociedad Artística y Literaria de Catalunya”.
He was a painter and decorator, but also someone committed to the amazing social changes of the time, where Catalonia was fighting to get a new order of their relations, the relations between owners and workman, and between Catalonia and Spain. He took part in the first line of some of the most relevant employer syndical unions of Catalonia.

He carries out the Torino bar’s paintings. The decoration of the place, a work of catalan modernist art was made by Ricard Campany with the assistance of Gaudí, Cadafalch and Pere Falqués.

He paints “Estudi de nen 12”, a kid with a monkey stuffed toy in his arms, oil on canvas 39x58cm, “Begoña 3”, oil on canvas, and “Begoña 2”, oil on canvas.
He was in charge of the restoration of the ceiling and the proscenium of the showroom of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, for what he was praised a lot.
He attends at the Exposició d’Art a Reus’ opening organized by the Centre de Lectura de Reus in representation of the Círculo Artístico.

He is selected vice-president of the Circulo Artístico’s board.
The Círculo Artístico of Barcelona celebrates a dance. The party hall was decorated by Francesc Garcia Escarré with four draperies of Beltran (2), Ferrer and Vallhonrat.
March 28th: The “Junta Provincial de Auxilios”
He appears on a list of people who donated to the “Junta Provincial de Auxilios” of Tarragona for the castaways. Garcia Escarré donated 2 pessetes (a total of 332,45,-Pts).

He participates in the “Exposició Extraordinària” of the sala Parés in Barcelona with “Niños Jugando”. A total of 63 pieces were exhibited then.
He participates in the “VI Exposició Internacional d’Art de Barcelona”. He exhibits “Paisatge” and “Maternitat”, highlighted in an art work collection made by La Vanguardia.
Francesc Garcia Escarré is chosen part of award jury in the paint category. He votes for Shannon instead of Clarà, which created a little bit of polemic issues because the artist was a foreign one.

He participates in the “Panama-Pacific International Exposition” in San Francisco, organized to commemorate the termination of the Panamà Canal. He exhibits “Maternity” and “Esmeraldine”.
Since he is President of the Unión y Montepio de Maestros Pintores, Francesc Garcia Escarré is announced a member of the direction of the Unión Gremial chaired by Agustí.

Francesc Garcia Escarré probably little time after reaching La Havana, Cuba, smoking one of his typical cigars.
The newspaper of the Centre Català de l’Havana publishes the article “D’un cap de mon a l’altre” from Francesc Garcia Escarré where he describes the decoration of the palace Maricel .
The newspaper Vida Catalana promotes the celebration of the Jocs Florals. Garcia Escarré (“Exquisite painter, literate man, austere, of clear judgement”) represents the newspaper in the organisation.

The board of the Societat de Beneficència de Naturals de Catalunya approves unanimously Garcia Escarré’s a proposal between others to establish the Catalan as the official language of the entity.
The Jocs Florals of La Havana are celebrated with big success. His consistory is formed by his president Dr. Mimó, Pere Boquet, Josep Conangla and Francesc Garcia Escarré (stand, 1st from left).
Francesc Garcia Escarré is designated president of the section of culture of the new board of directors of the Orfeó Català directed by Teodor Llobera.

The Foment Català of La Havana celebrates the catalan national day with 3 theater plays in his new headquarters. He paints the theater sets, where excels a traditional catalan kitchen “with clear catalan flavor”
Francesc Garcia Escarré takes on the decoration of the sceneries, the furniture, the tailoring and the armoury of the play “Don Juan Tenorio” organised by the Foment Català.

“Vida Catalana” organizes a intimate lunch to celebrate that the actress Margarida Xirgu has arrived to Cuba. Francesc Garcia Escarré (right top of the image, on the right of the column) takes part.
The Orfeó Català organizes a literary and musical evening. Francesc Garcia Escarré, president of the section of culture makes a speech at the end of the act.
Francesc Garcia Escarré and Francesc Pausas (painting) and Anton Claramunt (furniture) are put in charge of the decoration of the new headquarters of the Centre Català of the Havana.
