Francesc Garcia Escarré

The painter’s and man’s life

Francesc Garcia Escarré was born in Reus (Tarragona, Catalonia) in 1871. He studied art in Barcelona, Paris and Madrid. He traveled and participated in different exhibitions around the world. He also decorated particular homes and public buildings. The worth of his work was recognized in the artistic surroundings of the time and he participated actively in art associations such as “Círculo Artístico” or “la Sociedad Artística y Literaria de Catalunya”.

He was a painter and decorator, but also someone committed to the amazing social changes of the time, where Catalonia was fighting to get a new order of their relations, the relations between owners and workman, and between Catalonia and Spain. He took part in the first line of some of the most relevant employer syndical unions of Catalonia.
